Inland Lakes students are stepping up and taking action to enhance their local community! Woodworking students are working with the local community to rebuild benches throughout Inland Lakes. This project illustrates the many benefits of industrial arts; including teaching students to become self-reliant, understand math and science skills in real life situations outside of the classroom, help students discover their strengths and more.
Brandon Beltz, Inland Lakes Industrial Arts Instructor, is excited about getting his students involved in placed based education, or real life projects working in and with the community. This project has given students a sense of ownership in their hometown and the opportunity to give back to the community that has continuously supported Inland Lakes Schools. Another major aspect of the project that has benefited students is the real world experience it has brought to the classroom. Participating in this project has not only taught students how to design and refurbish benches, but how to meet deadlines and partner with their local community on a project.
