Christina Carson, an AmeriCorps serving the Huron Pines, with Holly Wirgau from Rogers City Middle School teamed up with the 4-H Summer Rec. Program to study macro-invertebrates from the Trout River. The objective of the study was to determine the health of the river by observing the macro-invertebrates (bugs, snails, larva, etc.) collected from the bed of the river in two different locations using nets, buckets, and magnifying glasses. The kids and staff had fun digging in the mud and muck to find "creepy crawlies" which were then sorted in ice cube trays for identification. In July, Christina, Holly, and the Summer Rec. Program will be heading back out to test the quality of the Trout River. by Angie Asam/Presque Isle Advance/June 2010
