In hopes of creating the best possible projects, providing Professional Development opportunities for area teachers and partners is one of the three main goals of the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative. Throughout the year, NEMI GLSI will plan various events that should prove useful in the development and implementation of your Community-Based Education project. These will include the following (and more!):
- Community-Based Education Workshops: Still a little unsure of what Community-Based Education is, or how to approach this sort of project? These workshops will help you get your bearings (and attending one is required for all teachers participating on a team).
- Networking Dinners/Meetings: These provide an opportunity to network with possible community partners, other teachers, and GLSI staff.
- Topic-Based Workshops: Other workshops may be offered for teachers to learn a variety of skills, for example how to conduct water quality surveys with your students.
Some teachers or community partners may feel the need for Professional Development on a specific topic that NEMI GLSI is not yet offering. If this is the case, please use this form to request that we plan an event or ask for funding to attend an outside event.
