Inland Lakes High School Earns Michigan Green School Status

INDIAN RIVER -- Maureen Stine, area coordinator of the Michigan Green Schools, recently presented Inland Lakes Schools with Cheboygan County's first Green School flag.

Rebecca Heckman, a teacher and champion of green initiatives at Inland Lakes Schools, received the flag and the certificate signed by Governor Snyder.

"It is great to be part of helping improve our school, community, and preserving our pristine Northern Michigan environment," Heckman said.

Heckman wrote the application for the school district in coordination with a grant by the North East Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.

"Inland Lakes Schools is blessed with a dedicated staff that are committed to doing the best for students and the community," said superintendent Fred Osborn.
